Pairing: 2+R
Rating: Uhhh....PG-13....I guess...for adult situations ^_^;;
Disclaimer: Duo and Relena are not mine. The song "Already There" is
by Lonestar. I am not making money from this....so do not sue. You
won't get a thing! ^_^
Notes: I am er...'borrowing' Lilias' idea of Duo being Relena's Chief
of Security. (Hope she doesn't mind!) Duo is on a business trip away
from home in this fic. He and Relena are married, and have two
children; a girl - Leah Maxwell, and a boy - Solo Maxwell. I believe
this is the only fic I've done so far that is fit to share with this
ML!

Already There by Lindsey Yawn
<He called her on the road
From a lonely cold hotel room
Just to hear her say I love you one more time>
Duo Maxwell picked up the phone and dialed the same number that he
had dialed just two hours earlier. On the beginning of the fourth
ring it was answered. //Must have been waiting on me, ne Lena?//
"Hello?" The voice on the other line sounded tearful.
"Hey, Lena. How're things holdin' up down there?"
A small sniffle. "We miss you."
"I miss you, too Lena. You know I hate these business trips. Whether
it's you or me that has to be away from home...I just don't like
them."
"Duo..."
<And when he heard the sound
Of the kids laughing in the background
He had to wipe away a tear from his eye
A little voice came on the phone
And said "Daddy when you coming home"
He said the first thing that came to his mind>
Duo could hear Leah and Solo laughing in the background and Leah
begging to hold the phone. He smiled and felt tears spring to his
eyes.
"Hold on, Duo. Leah wants to talk to you."
"Alright Lena."
He heard the phone shift and a cheerful voice asked "Daddy, when are
you coming home?"
Absently, he wiped his eyes. //Now, what can I say to that? How can I
tell her I'll be gone for another week?// He took a breath, and said
softly, "I'm already there."
<I'm already there>
"But I don't see you." Her voice held a measure of disbelief. After
all, how could Daddy be there if she could not see him?
Again, he smiled. "Look around, Sweetheart."
<Take a look around>
"The sun that's shines in your hair, that's me."
<I'm the sunshine in your hair>
"And I'm the shadow that you see on the ground."
<I'm the shadow on the ground>
"When you hear the wind blowing, that's me whispering to you."
<I'm the whisper in the wind>
"But how, Daddy?"
"Let's just say I'm your imaginary friend."
<I'm your imaginary friend>
"But you aren't imaginary, Daddy."
Duo chuckled. "I know, I know. Pray for me tonight, okay, Leah?"
"I pray for you every night, Daddy."
A muffled voice shouted, "So do I!"
"Solo does too."
<And I know I'm in your prayers
Oh I'm already there>
"Leah? Can I talk to Mommy again?"
"Yeah. And Daddy?"
Duo held his breath.
"I love you."
Again, tears came to his eyes. "I love you, too."
<She got back on the phone
Said I really miss you darling
Don't worry about the kids they'll be alright
Wish I was in your arms
Lying right there beside you
But I know that I'll be in your dreams tonight
And I'll gently kiss your lips
Touch you with my fingertips
So turn out the light and close your eyes>
The phone shifted again and Relena's voice was heard. "I really miss
you, Duo."
"You know I miss you too."
He heard her take a shaky breath. "I know. I wish you were here. The
bed is so empty and cold at night."
"Oh, Lena...it's lonely here too." //And this hotel bed is twice as
cold.// "What I wouldn't give just to touch you right now, Lena. You
know I'll dream of you tonight."
"I know you will. I'll dream of you too." Her voice was starting to
sound shaky again.
"Please don't cry, Lena."
"I'm sorry...I can't help it." Another breathe, and her voice was
stronger. "Turn out the light and close your eyes, Duo."
"Why, Lena?"
"Because I'm already there."
<I'm already there>
"Lena?"
"Hush."
<Don't make a sound>
"Put your hand over your heart, Duo."
Duo was confused, but did as he was told. Quietly he waited for her
next words.
"That's me."
<I'm the beat in your heart>
"And the moonlight that's shining down on you...I'm that, too."
<I'm the moonlight shining down>
"When the wind blows...it's not just the wind. It's me whispering to
you."
<I'm the whisper in the wind>
"I'm never going to let you go."
<And I'll be there 'til the end>
"I love you so much Duo."
<Can you feel the love that we share
Oh, I'm already there>
"I love you too, Lena." There was a hitch in his voice. He wanted to
tell her he loved her more than anything in the world, but the lump
in his throat wouldn't let him.
"When will you be home?"
"Hopefully by next week."
A pause.
Duo forged ahead to reassure her before she could start crying. "But
I'm right there with you. No matter how far apart we are."
<We may be a thousand miles apart
But I'll be with you wherever you are>
He could practically feel her smile into the phone. //That's more
like it.//
"And I'm with you."
"I know you are."
"I suppose I should let you go now. Don't you have to meet with
Eldrin early tomorrow morning?"
"Yeah, I do."
"Are you going to call tomorrow?"
"You bet."
"Allright then, Goodnight Duo. I love you."
"Goodnight Lena. I love you too."
Duo only hung up when he heard a click, signaling that she had hung
up. Sighing, he flopped back onto the bed. //Oh, Lena...I wish you
were in my arms right now.// He closed his eyes.
He knew he had dozed off because when he opened his eyes, he realized
he was clutching one of the pillows. //Lena...// In annoyance, he
tossed the pillow behind him. He glanced at the digital clock on the
dresser next to the bed. //11:10 PM...Hmm...If I take the jet, it
won't take me but around five hours, so...// Suddenly, he
smiled. //Screw the damn meeting. I'll CALL Eldrin tomorrow!//
<I'm already there
Take a look around
I'm the sunshine in your hair
I'm the shadow on the ground
I'm the whisper in the wind
And I'll be there 'til the end
Can you feel the love that we share
Oh I'm already there>

At 4:21 AM on the dot, Duo slowly opened the front door. Tiptoeing up
the stairs, he entered Solo and Leah's room first.
Leah's bed was empty, and his eyes fell on Solo's. Leah was curled
up in his bed. The two of them lay side by side, sleeping peacefully.
//Leah must have had nightmares again. Solo always lets her sleep
with him when she has nightmares.// Smiling, Duo bent down and kissed
both their foreheads, and then made his way out of their room, and
into the one he and Relena shared.
His breath caught as he stared at the goddess lying on their bed.
Wheat blond hair spilled over one pillow, while the other pillow was
held securely in two loving arms. He felt himself grin. He shut their
door behind him and softly approached the bed.
He lifted a few strands of her hair and kissed them, then caressed
her cheek lightly. "Lena. Wake up, Lena."
After a few moments of prodding, Relena rolled over. "Duo?"
His grin grew wider. "Hey Baby."
"Please tell me I'm not dreaming."
"You aren't dreaming."
"Pinch me."
"I'm not going to pinch you, but I'll show you that you're not
dreaming." Lacing his fingers through hers, he leaned down and
pressed his lips to hers. At first, the kiss was undemanding, but
then, he felt her sigh against his lips, and that gave him an excuse.
He slid his tongue into her mouth, and she opened her mouth wider,
pulling him down onto the bed and atop her.
"What are you going to do about Eldrin?" She asked, panting softly as
Duo's free hand trailed down to her lower stomach.
"We'll talk about it in the morning."
"Aren't you sleepy?"
"We'll sleep in the morning."
Reaching behind him and undoing his braid, she ran fingers through
his now loose hair. "It's already morning, but, I can see that you
mean later in the morning. So, what do we do now?" She purred.
His hands traveled lower, and he grinned satisfactorily when she
arched her back and moaned softly. "Sweetheart, I haven't been home
for a week. We need to catch up on...some things." His mouth
traveled to her earlobe, and he suckled it gently.
"We'll wake the kids."
"I shut their door and our door. They won't hear a thing."
"I missed you." She whispered as her hands worked feverently at the
buttons on his shirt.
"And I missed you." He replied, mouth moving lower to rest on her
neck. "But I'm back now."
"I'm glad."
"I'm glad too. Like I said, we'll sort it out in the morning."
"Duo?"
"Hmm?"
"Let's take a trip to the stars."
He smiled, and laid his lips softly against hers. Pulling back, violet
met blue in a flurry of emotion.
Finally, he softly murmured:
"I'm already there."
<Oh I'm already
There>
So, how was it? Terrible? Horrible? Okay? Good? *Cries* Please say
it's good! I worked for 3 hours on it!!! At least say it's okay! Once
again, if anybody wants to archive it, or put it on their site, just
let me know! ^_^
