//There's a natural mystic blowing through the air

if you listen carefully now you will hear

this could be the first trumpet, might as well be the last

many more will have to suffer

many more will have to die - don't ask me why//

I don't know what exactly told me to go outside this night. Maybe it

was the fact that I couldn't sleep, or the fact that I had other things on my

mind, but whatever it was I went. I changed out of my pajamas and got into

some clothes to look halfway decent just in case some other students were

roaming about after curfew.

It was a pretty night out. It was slightly windy but nothing too bad.

I just continued walking on the paved paths looking for whatever brought me

out here. It would be nice to see somebody I recongnized but being alone out

here wasn't that bad. I wasn't really paying attention but my eyes came

across a familiar figure. Mixed emotions were running through my head about

the young woman not far off. I knew who she was, and I even talked with her

some even though our encounters did not go all that well due to certain

circumstances. I stayed a few meters away just to look at her, studying her

to make sure I wasn't about to intrude on something important. She seemed

lost in thought about something. 'Probably thinking about Heero,' I mused. I

carefully approached her thinking of what I should say to her.

"Isn't it past your bedtime princess?" I smiled at the shock

expression on her face. She quickly recomposed herself and smiled politely at

me.

        "Oh. Good evening Duo."

I went and sat beside her. I don't still don't know why I'm out here.

Maybe just to keep her company or something. We just sat in silence looking

up at the stars. "Pretty, isn't it?"

She seemed startled again before smiling in that calm manner of hers.

"Yes, it is quite lovely."

We went into our own deep thoughts once more. I was actually getting

used to the silence before her voice rang like a bell through the night air.

"Nights like this make one wonder about things. Like if this war is

really nessesary to obtain peace. So many have died for this cause, and it's

a shame that the cause that they had died for is nothing but to fulfill the

egos of power hungry diplomats."

I nodded. So the chick did believe in absolute pacifism. I guess I

believed in pacifism up to a certain degree. But I do believe in some of her

reasons. "I know what you mean. But their is nothing you can do about it.

More will suffer in time, and more will die fighting for a cause that

probably doesn't care about what happens to them. That's just how things

work. It's been that way for a long time. You would think they figured it out

by now, but as you can see they haven't." I glanced over at her. She seemed a

little upset by my words, but I knew she understood the truth.

She looked at me sadly. The fact that you could see the stars in her

tear-glossed eyes made it even more heartbreaking. "But do you think it has

to be this way? Do you think the ways could change?"

Nope. That was the first thing that came to my mind. But if things

could change, I'm sure she would be the one to do it. It's not often you meet

people like her with her beliefs. Maybe if the world and the colonies

produced more people like her, things would be different. "I don't know. But

if that ever happens, hopefully I'm not dead by then." I turned and gave her

a grin. She blushed a little. I don't think she does that much. She should

though, it's kinda cute.

        "You shouldn't think like that."

I decided not to comment on that. Maybe be both have different views

on life. Mine is to make some good out of what you have and whatever time you

have left, try and try to have some fun with it. Life's not certain, but

death is. I always try and remember that, even though I do forget my own

words sometime.

//things are not the way they used to be

i won't tell you no lie

one and all have to face reality now

'tho i've tried to find the answer to all the questions they ask

'tho i know it's impossible to go living through the past

don't tell no lie\\

"Do you think about how life would be after the war? Would it be

peaceful or cautious?"

"Probably a mix of the two, but you can never tell. I can't think

that far ahead. I'm still wondering if I'll be here to see the end of this

war. The way the rumors are in the colonies, things don't seem too bright

right now."

"You're a 'now' person, aren't you Mr. Maxwell? Are you afraid of

what you see in the future or something of that nature?"

"Naw, I'm just a realist person. The thing I was taught when I was

younger is that you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. Just see

what happens first before you think about the future, because the future

isn't dependable."

"You seem more tense about things than Heero is. What is it with you

two boys? Are you afraid of some impending disaster?"

I don't know about Yuy, but I know I am. But I'm not about to shatter

her view of her soilder boy. "I can only speak for myself since I am still

getting used to Yuy, but I don't know. I'm still trying to figure out things

around me."

"Oh." was all she said. I wonder if her thing with Yuy is more than

it seems to be. Why Heero acts like he's planning to die on every mission

still bugs me when he has this girl who obviously cares for him and only

wants to talk. If I was her, I would find a pilot worth my time. But if I was

Heero, I could at least acknowledgs her presence by saying hi, instead of

pulling a gun out everytime our eyes meet. A low, tired sigh escaped my lips.

This was afterall the guy who had set his own leg.

        "What is it?"

I turned my head her way and looked at her curious expression before

I gave her a small grin. "Nothing, I was just thinking of something that

happened a while ago."

She seemed content with that answer and finally went quiet again. I

kept my eyes on the sky but I was examining her secretly. She was indeed a

pretty girl, plus smart and dedicated. Why wouldn't Heero want to at least be

friends with her? Someone that dedicated to their beliefs and ideals could

not be all that bad. I bet if he just talks with her for one moment, he'll

like her. But I don't know... soilder boy is still a soilder boy.

I redirected my attention away from the weird boy back to the girl at

my side. She was really lost in the stars, I wonder why? "Princess, are you

wishing on a star?"

She adverted her attention once again and tried to recollect her

thoughts. A slow, small, graceful smile highlighted her features as she shook

her head. "No, I never understood that custom."

I shook my head. I always thought girls were doing that kind of

stuff, or at least kids did. I turned sideways on the bench facing her as I

took one of her hands in mine. "Shame on you. It's not a custom and I don't

think it's ever meant to be understood." I guided her hand in mine so it

pointed to the north star. "You see that star up there, just wish for

something... anything. I'm not making any promises that it'll come true

though."

        "Then what's the point?"

"There is not point to it at all. Just lose your disbelief for a

while and leave reality. If you do it, then I will."

I could tell she was still skeptical and but she relunctantly

followed my commands. I saw the star she was about to 'wish' on reflected in

her eyes before she closed them. My breath got caught in my throat. Who would

have known that this one simple gesture could bring about this sudden rush of

feelings within me? I tried my best to shake off the unnatural cause and make

my wish. I don't know what propelled me to do so, but I wished that this

little meeting of ours would turn out to be one of many more.

        "Duo?"

I snapped out of my reverie and focused on her. Her eyes seemed to be

brighter and full of life, something that I don't think has ever been with

her. I recovered quickly and smiled at her. "Yeah, what is it?"

I wanted to chuckle right then and there at her almost sheepish

smile. I bit my tounge and concentrated on her words.

"I'm sorry if I interrupted you... but I had to let you know you were

right. It felt nice, in a way."

I squeezed her hand before letting go of it. "Babe, you'll come to

know that I'm always right." There, that earned me another one of her smiles.

I sat back against the bench in silence just enjoying being within her

company after my last comment. Different thoughts ran in and out of my mind

but somehow they always managed to go back to her. My eyes glanced her way

hoping to sneak in a secret studying session of her. She looked so peaceful

and serene with the thoughtful look on her face and the breeze going in and

out of her hair. I don't really know what she wished for or even if she

wished for something at all, but I think that my wish just may come true.

There was something comforting about the gentle breeze blowing our way that

lulled me into a sense of security.
